The Matadors open dual play this week. CSUN gets the 2023 campaign underway at No. 14 USC on Thursday at 3 p.m. before returning home on Saturday to host William Jessup at noon.

ABOUT USC
The Women of Troy are 14th in the Jan. 4 ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. USC has four players in the ITA Collegiate Individual Rankings; No. 2 Madison Sieg, No. 17 Snow Han, No. 83 Emma Charney, and No. 96 Naomi Cheong. In addition, the Women of Troy have one doubles team, Eryn Cayetano and Sieg, ranked, coming in a No. 20.

USC began the Spring season with a trip to the Hawai'i Hidden Dual Tournament last weekend, winning 12 singles and four doubles matches. The Women of Troy will host Loyola Marymount on Thursday at 11 a.m. before taking on the Matadors.

CSUN and USC are playing for the third time, with the Women of Troy holding a 2-0 advantage.

ABOUT WILLIAM JESSUP
A member of the NAIA Golden State Athletic Conference, William Jessup is in its fourth season of varsity competition. The Warriors were 4-16 last season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the GSAC Tournament. Saturday's dual is an exhibition for William Jessup. In addition, Saturday is the first time CSUN and William Jesup play in a women's tennis dual.

CSUN FALL REVIEW
CSUN recorded a successful Fall in which the Matadors played in five tournaments.

CSUN took a pair of titles at the San Diego State Fall Classic I. Emma Moratalla Sanz won the Black singles bracket. The freshman from Valencia, Spain defeated Kaytlin Taylor of Cal State Fullerton in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Victoria Santibañez Luna and Angela Ho were victorious in the Black doubles bracket. The Matadors' pair defeated Cal State Fullerton's, Natalie Duffy and Diana Yanotoskaya 6-4 to earn the win.

CSUN came away with one title and a pair of runner-up finishes at the Long Beach State Tournament. In the Black doubles flight, Jolene Coetzee and Angela Ho were victorious as the Matador pair defeated Sheena Masuda and Rhona Cook 6-3. In the Black singles flight, Sasha Turchak lost to Grand Canyon's Natasha Puehse in the finals. Tuchak took the first set 7-5. Puehse tied the match by winning 6-3 in the second. Puehse won in a tiebreaker 7-4, in the third to take the match.

Sofia Dermenjyan was the runner-up in the White singles flight. Long Beach State's Doga Akyurek defeated Dermenjyan 6-3, 6-2 in the finals. The Gold flight championship was to have featured CSUN's Vitoria Solis and Tallia Harper, but the match was not played. In place of that match, the Matadors played separate singles matches. Solis defeated Duffy 6-4, 6-3 while Harper dropped a three-set decision to UC Irvine's Larissa Teramura (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).

Coetzee and Ho advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Southwest Regionals. However, Coetzee and Ho fell 8-6 to the No. 4 seed Solymar Colling and Claudia De Las Heras of the University of San Diego in the championship round of 16. Colling is ranked 34th in the preseason ITA Singles rankings, and her partner, Elizabeth Goldsmith, is ranked in a tie for 37th in the preseason ITA Doubles rankings.Â

CSUN concluded the Fall by winning 38 of 52 matches that the Matadors played during the CSUN Fall Invitational.Â
