HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons would control the first half, building a three-goal lead over the first 45 minutes. In the third minute, Courtney Hilliard set up Lizzy Teran on the Tritons' first goal through the middle of the field. UCSD added another in the 13th minute on a strike from Lindsey Park, set up nicely by Alexis Nguyen. Goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin was able to get a hand on the Park shot but the ball trickled into the net. Just six minutes later, the Tritons built a 3-0 lead after capitalizing on a CSUN turnover. Hilliard this time hit the back of the net from 10 yards. CSUN gained six corner kicks in the first half but were kept out of the net each time.
Out of intermission, UCSD took advantage of a corner kick in the 49th minute with Camyrn Borg scoring for a 4-0 lead. CSUN though found a way to get back into the game over the next 15-plus minutes. A UCSD foul in its own box gave Izabel Reyes a chance to hit the net on a penalty kick in the 51st minute. Nearly 10 minutes later, the Matadors struck again on a missile from Reyes from well beyond the box, utilizing passes from Kacie Garrity and Ashley Cruz.

Minutes later in the 64th, Garrity set up another CSUN scoring opportunity by driving the ball up the left side of the field. Garrity would deliver a pass into the middle of the box where Cruz flicked the ball into the net, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

However, the Tritons soon answered with another strike in the 66th minute to gain more breathing room. Park netted her second goal of the night, scoring off a pass from the left from Teran. Down the stretch, the Matadors had looks at the net, but a comeback was not in the cards. Reyes nearly came away with a hat trick on a solid look from the left wing, however, the attempt went just wide.

ACCORDING TO COACH CHRISTINE JOHNSON
"We fought and brought a lot of energy in the second half. The energy on our sideline was incredible the entire game. Tale of two halves tonight. UC San Diego is a good team so I don't want to take anything away from them but our second half play was very good."
