Cal Poly opened Big West play by losing at UC Davis on Sept. 27 before playing to a 1-1 tie at UC Riverside on Sept. 30. The Mustangs are 2-5-2 overall.

Jackson Kestler leads the team in goals (3), assists (3), and shots (21).

Justin Siegel leads the three Cal Poly goalies who have seen time in the net for the Mustangs. In seven games, Siegel is 2-3-2 with 23 saves and a 1.29 goals-against average.

One of CSUN's oldest rivals, the Matadors, are playing Cal Poly for the 62nd time, with CSUN leading the all-time series 31-19-11. Â

The Hornets began league play on Sept. 27 with a 1-1 tie against Cal State Bakersfield before playing to a scoreless draw on Sept. 30 against UC San Diego.

Sacramento State is 3-6-2 overall. The Hornets are at UC Riverside on Wednesday before coming to Northridge.

Austin Wehner is the team leader in assists (4) and points (10), while Dominic Vegaalban has scored a club-best four goals.

Mac Learned has started 10-of-11 matches for Sacramento State in goal. He is 3-5-2 with two shutouts. He has posted a 1.70 goals-against average. Learned's 62 saves are the most among NCAA Division I goalies to begin this week.

WENZEL IN GOAL
Cooper Wenzel started his 33rd consecutive match in goal for CSUN against Cal State Bakersfield on Sept. 30.

From the final three games of 2021 through the last 15 minutes of the Portland game, Wenzel played 2,675 consecutive minutes for the Matadors. Merrick Cook came on in relief of Wenzel against the Pilots to complete the game.

Wenzel is 2-5-4 this season. His 52 saves are the second-most in the Big West and the fourth-highest in NCAA Division I to begin the week.

He made a career-high 11 saves against CSUB, which is the sixth most in a match by a Matadors' goalie, and is tied with three others for the fifth most in a D-1 match this season.

Wenzel has raised his career saves' total to 156, moving him into eighth in school history in the category.
Â
Wenzel is tied with Henrik Regitnig (2017-18) and Jeff Blumkin (1986-89) for seventh in school history in career shutouts (9). Playing 38 matches in goal, Wenzel is tied with Regitnig for sixth in school history in the category.

CSUN dropped the opening two Big West matches of 2023. The Matadors lost a 5-4 shootout against Cal State Fullerton last Wednesday before falling 1-0 on a late penalty kick to Cal State Bakersfield last Saturday.
