CSUN Returns to Action Hosting Long Beach State

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer continues Big West action with a Sunday home match with Long Beach State. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Matadors picked up their first Big West win of the season with a 4-0 triumph over Cal State Bakersfield on Sept. 28. Four different Matadors hit the net while Hayden Mauldin notched her third shutout of the year as well as her second clean sheet over the last three outings.
Brooke Mobeck got the Matadors' offense started with a goal in the 22nd minute while Cassidy Imperial-Pham gave CSUN a 2-0 lead at intermission with a strike in the 35th minute. After halftime, Kaylee Gutierrez pushed the lead to 3-0 before Izabel Reyes hit the net following a corner kick to close the scoring. Reyes added two assists in the contest while the group of Kacie Garrity, Erin Anderson and Sami Kolin had one assist apiece.
MATADOR HEADLINES
Nearing the halfway mark of the Big West season, CSUN (1-9-3, 1-1-2) is tied for sixth place in a Big West race where first place and last place is separated by five points. Hawai'i leads the league with 10 points while Cal State Fullerton has nine points and UC San Diego and Cal Poly have seven apiece. UC Riverside holds on to fifth place with six points. Five other teams are tied with CSUN at five points each.
After her performance last Thursday, Hayden Mauldin collected her second-straight Big West Defensive Player of the Week award. Mauldin had four saves, three of which in the first half while facing 11 shots total. She is the first CSUN player to win the Big West Defensive Player of the Week honor in back-to-back weeks in team history. Mauldin also became the first player to receive the conference's weekly defensive honor twice in a season since Jovani McCaskill in 2016.
Mauldin enters the weekend 18th in the nation in saves (69) and 34th in saves per game (5.31). She is also third in The Big West in the saves department while she is tied for third in shutouts (3) and fourth in save percentage (.767).
Offensively, Izabel Reyes tops the team with three goals on the year, which ranks 12th-best in The Big West. Reyes also ranks 11th in the conference in shots on goal (12) and 13th in points (8). Six other Matadors have hit the net as well on the year.
SERIES HISTORY
The Beach leads CSUN 17-9-3 in the all-time series. Long Beach State has won three-straight matches in the series including collecting a 4-1 win over the Matadors last season at George Allen Field. CSUN dropped a 1-0 decision to the Beach in the teams' last meeting in Northridge during the 2021 campaign. The Matadors' last win in the series took place on Oct. 31, 2019, by a 1-0 decision.
SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE
The Beach come in with a 6-5-3 overall record and 1-2-2 Big West record. The team battled to a 0-0 draw with Cal Poly this past Thursday. Long Beach State has been shutout in three-straight matches after previously scoring nine goals over a two-game span. On the season, the Beach top The Big West with 25 goals. Prior to the season, the Beach were picked by the league's coaches to win The Big West. Elysia Laramie has scored a Big West-leading eight goals to go with 21 points. Cherrie Cox, a Preseason All-Conference selection, is second in the league with six goals. Zora Standifer ranks second in the league in goals-against-average at a 1.11 clip.
