11/21/2023 9:52:00 PM | Men's Basketball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball suffered an 80-70 defeat to Le Moyne on Tuesday evening at Premier America Credit Union Arena. De'Sean Allen-Eikens and Dionte Bostick scored 20 points apiece while Keonte Jones and Jasman Sangha added 10 each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN jumped ahead on a Keonte Jones dunk, but Le Moyne answered with six in a row to stake to an early lead. Luke Sutherland drained a 3-pointer to give the Dolphins an 11-4 lead before CSUN went on a 7-1 run to close the gap to one.
Â
Jasman Sangha gave the Matadors a 15-12 edge on a layup with 12:06 left in the first half, however, Le Moyne nailed a pair of threes followed by a dunk from Sutherland to open a nine-point edge. CSUN would play catch up for the remainder of the contest as Le Moyne built a 31-17 lead before CSUN chipped away at the deficit to pull to within 37-29 at intermission.
Bostick sank a three out of halftime but the Dolphins countered with four-straight points to once again extend the lead to nine. Le Moyne would earn its way to the free throw line with regularity in the second half, shooting 25 total attempts and making 23. After Sutherland converted on three free throws, Nate McClure hit a three to push the lead to 47-34. CSUN looked up at a 52-38 deficit but would make another run with seven-straight points as Allen-Eikens cut the lead to 52-45 on a traditional three-point play. The Matadors pulled to within 56-53 after six consecutive points but Le Moyne's Darrick Jones Jr. followed with a 3-point play.
Â
Le Moyne put together a key 8-0 run near the five-minute mark, stretching a four-point lead to 12. Allen-Eikens nailed a 3-pointer with 4:33 left to trim the lead to 71-62, but the Matadors never got any closer. Le Moyne closed the game making nine more free throws over the last three-plus minutes to secure a win.
NOTES OF THE GAME
ACCORDING TO COACH ANDY NEWMAN
"When we're not playing good offense, we have to be that much better on the defensive end, which we were not tonight. Unfortunately, when you put on a bad performance on both sides of the ball, this is going to be the result. Usually our defense and rebounding can carry us on nights like this where we're not going offensively but our defense was just as bad as our offense tonight."
