Pacific Defeats CSUN in Final CBU Classic Game
2/19/2023 12:27:00 PM | Softball
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CHARLOTTE MORGAN
"Pacific did a great job of coming out, playing hard, and taking the win. However, we did not come out hungry in anything we were doing defensively and offensively. Our pitching did a good job of giving us a chance, but we have to be better. There are no excuses, we didn't respect the game today, so the game didn't respect us back. It is time to reflect and get back to work next week."
The Tigers scored an unearned run in the top of the third to break the seal. Pacific extended the lead in the top of the sixth. Rian Diermeyer singled to left to open the inning. She moved to second on a Nina Davis grounder to second. Diermeyer stole third before Isabella Alonso struck out pinch-hitter Emma Dazell.
Reagan Hamilton worked out a walk and stole second. Jordan Hayes singled to short, advancing pinch-runner Nikki Enriquez to third, scoring Diermeyer. Talissa Montez singled down the right field line to drive in Enriquez, moving Hayes to third. Allie Gardiner relieved Alonso. She struck out Kyla Eck, but a wild pitch on the swinging third strike allowed Hayes to score. Carly Lucchetti popped up to end the inning.
Pacific pitcher Amiyah Aponte carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth before Carys Murakami doubled with one out.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Aponte hit pinch-hitter Jordan Kaeka. Samantha Kwiatkowski ran for Kaeka and headed to second when Shaylan Whatman walked. Allie Capello snared Alexis Garcia's liner in left for the second out. Breli Agbayani Shibao 's infield single loaded the bases to bring up Vinessa Nunez as the tying run. However, Aponte got Nunez to foul out to end the game.
Hamilton and Montez combined for four of the nine Pacific hits (two each). Aponte faced six above the minimum as she hit three CSUN batters. She struck out one and walked one.
