After 23 games on the road weather delays, CSUN is opening at home this weekend when the Matadors welcome Hawai'i to Northridge.

Friday's single game begins at 3 p.m. PDT/12 p.m. HT with Saturday's doubleheader getting underway at 1 p.m. PDT/10 a.m. HT.

The second game on Saturday will begin approximately 30 minutes upon the conclusion of game one. ESPN+ will stream all three games

Saturday is Alumni Day for the Matadors' program, leading into the first Gary Torgeson Golf Tournament on Sunday at Los Robles Golf Course in Thousand Oaks. For more information on the golf tournament head to GoMatadors.com/SoftballGolfTournament.

ABOUT HAWAI'I
The Rainbow Wahine opened Big West play at home last weekend by winning 2-of-3 against UC Santa Barbara.
Â
UH is 19-10 overall. Contrasting the Matadors, the Rainbow Wahine have played 24 of their 29 games at home this season.

The top three hitters for Hawai'i; Izabella Martinez (.333), Xioa Gin Malla (.329), and Maya Nakamura (.317) have started each of the 29 Rainbow Wahine games. Martinez is tied for the team and Big West lead in RBI (23) with Haley Johnson. Mya'Liah Betha is the Big West leader and ranked 16th in Division I in home runs with nine.

Brianna Lopez has won a league-high nine games this season (9-4). Fifth in the conference in ERA (1.73), Lopez has thrown the second-most innings of any Big West pitcher with 85. She has struck out 66, the sixth most in the league.

The Rainbow Wahine swept the Matadors last season in Honolulu by a total of four runs. Hawai'i leads the all-time series 23-18-1.

ALONSO NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
CSUN's Isabella Alonso was named Big West Freshman Softball Player of the Week on Mar. 20.

Alonso tossed a complete game one-hitter as the Matadors defeated the Mustangs 5-0 in the conference opener on Mar. 18. Alonso faced the minimum through the first three innings before issuing a Jessica Clements single to lead off the bottom of the fourth. However, she quickly retired the Mustangs to get out of the inning.

The righty retired the final 11 Mustangs in a row. Alonso faced 22 batters, needing only 64 pitches (40 for strikes) to record her third shutout of the season. Alonso got nine fly and eight ground ball outs in the game as she struck out one.

In her second start of the weekend on Mar. 19, Alonso started and went 3.2 innings as CSUN would win the game 2-1. The Cypress, Calif. native allowed two hits and walked two as she faced 15 batters. Alonso threw 54 pitches, 30 for strikes during the outing.

Ranked 26th in Division I in shutouts, Alonso is 4-1 on the year with a 2.09 ERA. She leads the team in wins and innings pitched (50.1).Â

ESCUTIA'S HOT START
Kaylee Escutia is off to a hot start for the Matadors in 2023. Through 23 games, she is hitting .357 which is the seventh highest in the Big West.

Escutia has a .482 slugging percentage and a .422 on-base percentage. She has scored eight runs with three doubles and two triples.

WELCOME BACK
Coming off a medical redshirt in 2022, Maiya Alemania has returned to the CSUN lineup with a bang.
Â
Alemania hit the game winning two-run home run at Cal Poly on Mar. 19. Making five appearances in seven starts, she is hitting .375 with eight RBI. Alemania enters this week with a .750 slugging percentage and a .524 on-base percentage.
