IRVINE, Calif. - CSUN senior Eirik Thomassen has been named Big West Conference Golfer of the Month for March as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
The award is the first for Thomassen and the first for a Matador men's golfer since Felix Schrott won Big West Player of the Month for October of 2021.
Thomassen, a senior from Rygge, Norway, played in two tournaments in March. He opened the month tying for fourth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert (Mar. 1-3) before winning the UC San Diego Invitational on Mar. 27-28 at Torrey Pines.
He carded a total of 3-under 213Â (73-69-71) at Wyoming before setting a CSUN tournament record with a 20-under total of 196 (68-63-65) at UC San Diego. For the month, he averaged 68.2 strokes per round while posting his first win of the season.
"Eirik had a record-setting month and to be honored by the Big West coaches is terrific," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "He finished fourth at the Wyoming event and to follow that up with a school record 20-under performance at UCSD; that is going to be a tough score to beat for years to come. Eirik has also had a great year in the classroom and truly exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete."Â
