Cal State Fullerton Edges Out CSUN 4-3

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Cal State Fullerton defeated CSUN 4-3 in Big West women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.
Vitoria Solis Urdiales and Cindy Ung took the opening doubles match when they defeated Diana Yanotovskaya and Kaytlin Taylor 6-2. Then, Sasha Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna clinched the doubles point at No. 2 with a 6-3 victory against Zoe Olmos and Milena Gevorgyan.
Geyorgyan tied the dual when she defeated Angela Ho 6-3, 6-4 in the opening No. 4 singles match. Then, Taylor earned the lead for the Titans with her 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) victory versus Emma Moratalla Sanz at No. 5. Yanotovskaya put Cal State Fullerton up by two when she defeated Zhytlena in three sets, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Turchak made it 3-2 when she took a pair of tiebreakers (3 and 5) against Natalie Duffy at No. 2. Cal State Fullerton clinched the dual at No. 1. With the match tied at one, Olmos was awarded the victory when Jolene Coetzee was forced to retire, trailing 4-0. Tallia Harper returned from dropping the opening set tiebreaker to Marila Nikitash to win the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-0.
