CSUN closes the regular season this week with a three-game series at home against UC Santa Barbara.

The three-game series begins with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. with a 1 p.m. single game coming up on Saturday. Upon the conclusion of Saturday's game, the Matadors will honor seniors Kayla Dominguez, Allie Gardiner, and Jordan Kaeka.

ABOUT THE GAUCHOSÂ
Under first-year head coach Jo Evans, UCSB enters the final week with 11 more victories from a year ago. The Gauchos are 26-19 overall, 13-11 in league play.

Madelyn McNally leads the Big West in hitting (.408), hits (62), and runs scored (40). She is second in on-base percentage (.489), sixth in slugging percentage (.546)
Â
Ashley Donaldson leads the league in slugging percentage (.621) and is tied with CSUN's Shaylan Whatman for third in doubles. Donaldson is tied for third in triples (4) with McNally. She is third in RBI (34) and fourth in hits (53).

Camryn Snyder is fourth in the Big West in wins (13) and tied for second in saves (3) with one other pitcher. Her 97 strikeouts are the eighth-most in the conference.

The Matadors swept the three-game series at UCSB last season by a combined score of 31-14. CSUN and UC Santa Barbara are playing for the 121st, 122nd, and 123rd times with the Matadors leading the all-time series 75-44-1.

LEAGUE RACE
Entering the final week of the regular season, Cal State Fullerton (20-4) has a two-game lead over Long Beach State (18-6). The Titans and the Beach will play each other this weekend, with the series opener being televised by ESPN U on Friday at 7 p.m.

CSUN is in third place with a 16-8 record. The 16 league wins are the most for the Matadors since 2015, when CSUN won the conference with a 16-8 mark.

UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara are tied for fourth at 13-11. Hawai'i is sixth with a 12-12 mark.

Cal Poly is seventh (10-14). UC Riverside (6-15) and UC San Diego are tied for eighth (8-16). CSU Bakersfield (2-22) rounds out the standings.

CARRANCO NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK FOR THE WEEK IN A ROW
Lauryn Carranco was selected Big West Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row on May 8.
Â
In the May 5 opener against UC San Diego, Carranco scattered seven hits, struck out four, and walked one in seven innings. She carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning in Saturday's nightcap. However, Carranco would end up with a two-hitter as she posted her second solo shutout of the year. She struck out seven in her fifth complete game of the year.

For the weekend, Carranco was 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA. She struck out 11 in 14 innings. UC San Diego hit .188 against the Clovis, Calif. native on the weekend.

Carranco is 8-7 with a 2.63 ERA in 23 appearances this season. She has struck out 72 in 87.2 innings on the year. She was named Big West Freshman Softball Player of the Week for the first time on Apr. 3.

CARMAN NAMED FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mikayla Carman was selected Big West Field Player of the Week on May 8 after leading the Matadors to a three-game sweep at UC San Diego.

The sophomore left fielder's 2-out, 2-RBI double in the top of the eighth propelled CSUN past UCSD 4-3 to open the series last Friday night. Carman went 3-for-4 with three RBI to begin the series. Then, in a game featuring four hits, Carman drove in the game-winning run in CSUN's 1-0 victory over UCSD in Saturday's doubleheader in La Jolla.

Carman hit .364 for the weekend with a .455 slugging and a .364 on-base percentage. She scored one run with a double and a sacrifice hit. She added two putouts in the field.

The sophomore left fielder is 10th in the Big West in hitting with a .324 average.
Â
Carman's three triples are tied with three others for the fifth most in the league. The total is the 10th most in school history by a Matador at the Division I level. She is ranked 142nd in Division I in triples per game.
Â
She is seventh in the Big West in RBI (26), ninth in hits (47), and 13th in runs scored (25). She posted a 10-game hitting streak that ended during the UC Davis series.
