ABOUT THE TRITONSÂ
UC San Diego is 18-28 overall, 8-13 in Big West play after dropping 2-of-3 to UC Riverside last weekend in La Jolla.

Morgan Eng is leading the team in hitting (.298). Bobbi Aguirre's 20 RBI are a team-high, while Gabby Williams has hit two of the five Tritons' home runs this season.

Jada Cecil is 10-10 in the circle for UC San Diego. She has a 2.02 ERA after pitching a team-best 135.1 innings this season. She has struck out 157, the second most in the Big West.

CSUN and UC San Diego are playing for the 12th, 13th, and 14th times with the Matadors leading the all-time series 6-5. UCSD has won 5-of-6 contests since the Tritons joined the Big West in 2021.

Entering week eight of Big West play, Cal State Fullerton (17-4) has taken a two-game lead over Long Beach State (15-6) for first place.

CSUN has moved into third place with a 13-8 record. Hawai'i, UC Davis, and UC Santa Barbara are tied for fourth with a 12-9 mark.

Cal Poly and UC San Diego are tied for seventh at 8-13. UC Riverside (6-15) and CSU Bakersfield (2-19) round out the standings.

LANDEROS NAMED FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alexa Landeros was selected Big West Field Player of the Week on May 1. The sophomore centerfielder hit .700 (7-for-10) in four games with a .900 slugging and a .700 on-base percentage. Landeros drove in four runs and scored three times.

Landeros went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the 7-2 loss to UCLA. In the opener against CSUB, Landeros was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. In game two versus the 'Runners, she was 2-for-3 with an RBI. The series finale saw Landeros go 1-for-2 with a run scored. She posted a .900 slugging and a .700 on-base percentage in the four games.

Landeros hit her team-leading fourth triple during the CSUB series, which ties her with four others for the fifth-most in a Division I season by a Matador player.

She increased her batting average by nearly 100 points during the week of Apr. 24. Landeros begins this week's play, hitting .262 with one home run and seven RBI.

CARRANCO NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND TIME
Lauryn Carranco was selected Big West Freshman of the Week for the second time on May 1. In three appearances, Carranco was 2-1 with an 0.50 ERA. She struck out 18 while walking only one in 14 innings of work. Opponents hit .140 against the freshman right-hander during the week.

In a controlled start against No. 2 UCLA, Carranco took the loss, giving up two unearned runs. Carranco retired the first 14 Roadrunners she faced in the Apr. 28 opener against the CSUB. She struck out a season-high 11 and did not walk a batter in the six-inning, 8-0 victory. Carranco won the series finale against the Roadrunners on Apr. 29, throwing six innings of four-hit ball. She struck out six CSUB batters along the way.

Carranco is 6-7 with a 2.95 ERA in 21 appearances this season. She has struck out 61 in 73.2 innings on the year. She was named Big West Freshman Softball Player of the Week on Apr. 3.
