After Thomassen followed up his second-team accolades from 2021-22, Felix Schrott garnered second-team honors for the second consecutive year and Paul-Louis Gachet was named honorable mention for the first time, CSUN has now had 35 golfers earn All-Big West honors since the 2002-03 season.
Thomassen led the Matadors in scoring this season with a 71.46 scoring average, He posted four top-10 finishes which included an individual win at the UCSD Invitational where he carded a CSUN record score of 20-under 196. His season also included a fourth place finish at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, a sixth place finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at Air Force and a ninth place showing at Fresno State's Nick Watney Invitational.
"Eirik had such a consistent season," said head coach Jim Bracken. "He's such a steady player and even when he has a bad round he bounces back with a sub-par round. He's really just the complete package you'd want in a student-athlete. I'm thrilled that he'll be back next season to lead us."
Schrott earned second-team honors for the second consecutive season after closing his season with a fourth place finish at the Big West Championship. He ranked second to Thomassen with a season scoring average of 71.73 and three top 10 finishes. Schrott also posted a win in 2022-23, claiming the Bill Cullum Invitational in October with a score of 6-under 210.
"Felix also had a solid year," added Bracken. "He had a win and some top-10 finishes and capped the year with a fourth place finish at the Big West Championship. He's just a great ball-striker and and is also a very consistent player. I'm super pleased that he'll be back next season as well."
Gachet, who concluded his CSUN career after playing in 48 tournaments and 140 rounds, earned All-Big West honors for the first time in his career. He finished the 2022-23 season ranked third on the team with a career-low 72.57 scoring average while posting four top-20 finishes. He concludes his collegiate career having taken 10,385 strokes over 140 rounds for a CSUN scoring average of 74.19.
"We'll miss Paul's leadership and consistency," added Bracken. "He had some really good tournament this year and was just a joy to coach over the last five years. He's been an academic All-American and is just a quality CSUN student-athlete who works equally hard on his game and his academics."
The Matadors concluded the 2022-23 season with one team win (Bill Cullum Invitational) while also posting six top-10 finishes including a fourth place finish at the recently completed Big West Championship in La Quinta.
