CSUN Falls For First Time at CBU 3-1

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—California Baptist scored twice in the first 13 minutes as the Lancers defeated CSUN 3-1 in men's soccer action Sunday night.

Levin Gerhardt got the Matadors on the board in the 56th minute when he connected from just outside the arc, approximately 23 yards away, to make it 2-1.

CBU took the lead in the third minute. Cooper Wenzel came out to challenge a Lancers' pass. He deflected the ball away, but the rebound came out to Luis Mueller, who chipped the ball over the CSUN defense and into a 1-0 lead for California Baptist. Mueller's second of the night came at the 70:32 mark when he scored off a free kick that went into the top right of the goal off his left-footed attempt. CSUN pressured the Lancers in the final 10 minutes, with CBU goalie Dorian Drucks coming up with a pair of saves on shots by Jack Rhead and Jamar Ricketts. NOTES
- CSUN outshot CBU 17-14, each team posting seven shots on goal. Marley Edwards took a team-high five shots for the Matadors.
- CSUN posted nine corner kicks, compared to five for California Baptist.
- Wenzel made four saves, while Drucks had six saves for the Lancers.
- Sunday was the second all-time meeting between CSUN and CBU, with the Lancers now winning both.
- California Baptist scored only three goals before Sunday's match against the Matadors.
- The Lancers improved to 1-2-1 on the year after being picked first in the preseason Western Athletic Conference men's soccer poll.
