Wenzel Records 9th Career Shutout as CSUN & LMU Play to 0-0 Tie

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--- Cooper Wenzel recorded his ninth career shutout as CSUN and LMU played to a 0-0 tie in men's soccer action Sunday night at Matador Field.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
The Lions threatened with just over seven minutes to play as Wenzel saved Steven Anderson's initial shot. The rebound came back out in front to Ryan Kingsford who shot from close range and saw Wenzel deny the attempt.
COOPER WENZEL'S SAVE AGAINST STEVEN ANDERSON
The rebound came out to Jorge Solorzano who was stopped by Oedekoven Pomponi, keeping the game scoreless. The final offensive attack came in the 89th when the Lions were awarded a corner kick that CSUN defended successfully.

CSUN (2-1-4) continues action against opponents from the West Coast Conference when the Matadors travel to No. 11 Portland (4-1). Coverage on ESPN+ begins at 7 p.m.

A physical game saw CSUN's Robert Kaemmerer booked for his second yellow of the night in the 85th minute, sending the Matadors a man down. - There were seven yellow cards issued (five for LMU, two for CSUN) in addition to the CSUN red.
- Wenzel made five saves, raising his career total to 138. He is now ninth in school history in the category.
- Wenzel is now tied with Henrik Regitnig (2017-18) and Jeff Blumkin (1986-89) for seventh in school history in career shutouts.
- Six different CSUN players took a shot for the Matadors with Solorzano, Ricketts, and Jack Rheadeach taking two to lead CSUN.
- Sunday's match was only the third time in 25 meetings between CSUN and LMU that resulted in a tie. The all-time series is tied 11-11-3. LMU is 3-0-4 in 2023.
