CSUN Drops 1-0 Decision at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Santa Clara defeated CSUN 1-0 in the final non-conference men's soccer match for the Matadors Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Field at Stevens Stadium.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
The Broncos took the lead in the 67th minute on a CSUN own goal. Brennen Mallett sent a ball toward the CSUN goal, where the Matadors' defense misplayed the attempt, allowing Santa Clara to take the lead.
On the ensuing CSUN possession, the Broncos' goalie, Jack Stoecker, knocked Marley Edwards' shot over the crossbar. The Matadors were awarded a corner kick, which the Broncos' defense knocked away.
CSUN threatened down the stretch but was unable to score the tying goal.
NOTES
CSUN (2-3-4) opens Big West play on Wednesday when the Matadors host Cal State Fullerton (5-2-2). Ghizal Hasan anchors the coverage on ESPN+ beginning at 7 p.m.

NOTES
- CSUN and SCU played for the first time since Oct. 5, 2019, when the Broncos (2-5-2) defeated the Matadors 2-0. The all-time series is tied 4-4.
- CSUN concluded non-conference play with their third consecutive opponent from the West Coast Conference on Sunday. The Matadors played four (San Diego, LMU, Portland, and Santa Clara) of their nine conference matches against the WCC.
