Matadors Host Oral Roberts as CSUN Aims for Back-to-Back Wins

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN men's soccer team is set to host Oral Roberts University for its second game in four days, Sunday night at Matador Soccer Field. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can follow live stats on GoMatadors.com

LAST TIME OUT
CSUN used a three-goal first half and added two more goals after halftime to cruise past The Master's University Mustangs, 5-1, Thursday night at Matador Soccer Field. Kayvon Monfared tallied a brace in his home Matadors debut. It was the first time a Matador has registered two goals in one night since Deryk Jones Jr. scored two at UCSB on Oct. 23, 2024.

The Matadors dominated the offensive end with 25 shots, including 12 on target. CSUN also earned eight corner kicks while holding the Mustangs to three shots and no shots on goal. Monfared provided an early spark for the Matadors, scoring in the fifth minute to give CSUN a 1-0 advantage.

In a quick turnaround, Tito Oyewo doubled the lead less than two minutes later, finishing a chance assisted by Jorge Solorzano and Sebastian Fuentes. It was the sophomore from Valencia's first career goal and Solorzano's first assist since 2024.

Monfared struck again in the 26th minute. Messiah Antwi and Michael Blevins both scored goals as well.

A LOOK BACK AT 2025
CSUN went 6-6-6 in 2025, including an impressive start to non-conference play as the Matadors went 5-1-3 to begin the season.

CSUN earned wins over Oral Roberts, Biola, Pacific, LMU and UNLV during the non-conference portion of its schedule.

Six different Matadors appeared in all 18 games during the 2025 season, with Enrique Pineda and Daniel Garcia returning to the team in 2026.

The Matadors were a defensive powerhouse in 2025. CSUN ranked 11th in the nation in goals-against average at 0.72 and led The Big West in goals allowed with just 13. The Matadors also ranked fourth in the conference with 82 saves. CSUN did not allow a goal in each of its first five games of the season.

The Matadors finished 1-5-3 in conference play and placed ninth in the final Big West standings.
CSUN tallied 11 goals during the 2025 season and converted on all three of its penalty-kick attempts.

SCOUTING ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY
ORU comes into Sunday's matchup with a 1-0-2 overall record. They beat a Big West school in UC Riverside in its season opener, 2-0 on August 20, and most recently the Golden Eagles tied another Big West foe, the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 2-2 in Fullerton on August 27.

Oral Roberts enters the season picked fourth in the 2026 Summit League preseason coaches' poll with 10 points, as Kansas City was tabbed the favorite. Sophomores Jeff Mesidor and Siem Tegbaru earned Players to Watch recognition. ORU returns 13 players from last season's squad and welcomes 15 newcomers to the roster.

The Golden Eagles have tallied five goals on the year and conversely, have conceded three goals.

Seven different players have played and started in all three games. All five goals have been scored by different people.

These two teams have one squared off once, and that was last season in Oklahoma. CSUN came out victorious, 1-0 on August 24, 2025.
