LA JOLLA, Calif.---CSUN Men's Soccer fell by a 1-0 score at UC San Diego on Saturday night at Triton Soccer Stadium. UCSD scored the game's only goal in the 16th minute and held off CSUN the rest of the way. The Matadors outshot the Tritons 19-6 in the match but could not find the equalizer despite a barrage of second-half attempts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a back-and-forth first 15-minutes of action to begin the game, the Tritons opened up the scoring with a 16th-minute goal. Max Carvalho set up the scoring chance with a cross to the middle before Quinn Sellers struck the netting for a 1-0 lead. The Matadors looked for a quick response leading to Jorge Solorzano sending a shot just high from inside the 18-yard mark. Minutes later, Zack Harris missed high of the net as well in the 28th minute. CSUN outshot UC San Diego 7-5 in the first half but still were a goal short heading into halftime.
The Matadors played mostly on offense for a majority of the second half, generating 12 total shots compared to just one for the Tritons. After Sebastian Fuentes and Harris were off the mark on shot attempts, Eyifehn Forfor had a shot saved from close range. CSUN would see the ball reach the net in the 80th minute on a Forfor attempt, but the goal was waived off on an offside call. In perhaps the closest call of the evening, the Matadors played the ball inside the 18-yard line in the 87th minute leading to Boniface Fatohou sending a shot off the left post. Michael Blevins picked up the loose ball off the Fatohou shot but missed high of the net. Fatohou had the last look of the night, another high miss, in the 89th minute.Â
