CSUN Closes Fall Season with Solid Performances at Home Invitational

FULL CSUN FALL INVITATIONAL RESULTS
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Tennis completed a successful weekend of competition, hosting the annual CSUN Fall Invitational at Matador Tennis Complex from Nov. 8-10. The Matadors finished off the three-day invite with nearly 20 victories in singles and doubles play.

Over the three days, CSUN hosted California teams in Loyola Marymount, Pacific and San Jose State along with out-of-state squads in Idaho, Minnesota, UTEP, and Youngstown State in hidden dual action.

FRIDAY RESULTS
The Matadors saw victory as CSUN tallied six wins to highlight day number one. In singles play, CSUN matched up against Minnesota, as they took three out of four from the Golden Gophers.

Yuliia Zhytelna beat Deniz Turan 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Victoria Santibanez Luna took down Anlin Xie 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Elena Goodman bested Mia Liepert 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-2.Â

"I got my first experience playing number one at our courts, it was nerve-wracking but I was able to win hard matches even though I felt I didn't play my best tennis,"Â said Zhytelna, a senior.

CSUN was also squared up with Youngstown State. The Matadors swept both bouts with the Penguins. Sydney Wilson beat Sarah Partida Garcia, 6-1, 6-3 in straight sets. Madison Shepperson saw success against Lydia Foster, 6-3, 6-0 in straight sets as well.

SATURDAY RESULTS
The Matadors continued singles play in dominant fashion. They took down Idaho in all six matches played against the Vandals. Zhytelna took care of Lena Beckx, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5. Santibanez Luna defeated Naomi Schrarder, 6-2, 6-1. Angela Ho knocked off Diana Khaydarshina, 6-2, 6-1. Emma Moratalla Sanz saw victory against Chenyue Xu, 7-6 (1), 7-5. Goodman beat Ida Johansson, 6-0, 6-2. Wilson defeated Hanna Koprowska in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

In more singles action, Shepperson defeated Line Greyling from Youngstown State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

CSUN also matched up against San Jose State in doubles play on day two. The Matadors took two out of three. Zhytelna/Ho beat Ying Shek/Dho 6-0. Santibanez Luna/Shepperson took down Fantousis/Capilla 6-2.

Goodman, the sophomore from Burbank, said this about the competition this weekend, "This weekend I was just happy to be out on the court to be honest. I've been dealing with an injury the whole fall, but being back competing with the team felt amazing."

Moratalla Sanz, the junior from Valencia, Spain felt good about how the fall competition went, as she gears up for the spring, "After three good days of tennis, I can say it was a very good fall overall. We showed our physical strength and resilience. Our whole team's energy was very good."

SUNDAY RESULTS
The Matadors matched up against Pacific for a couple of doubles play. They split with the Tigers 1-1.Â

In more singles play, CSUN was 2-2 against Loyola Marymount with wins from Zhytelna against Fiona Arrese 6-2, 6-1, as well as Santibanez Luna against Kim-Michaela Zahraj 6-4, 7-6 (2)

CSUN wrapped up singles play with a lone win against Youngstown State. Wilson bested Sarah Partida Garcia, 6-3.

Ho, the junior from San Francisco, had some thoughts to round up the weekend, "This tournament was fulfilling and difficult. Although I didn't play how I wanted, I feel like I learned a lot and got better from this weekend."

ACCORDING TO COACH GARY VICTOR
"We improved each day and showed a good deal of toughness against quality opponents. Maddi [Shepperson] had a breakout tournament. Yuliia [Zhytelna] and Victoria [Santibanez Luna] continue to show why they are all-conference players. Emma [Moratalla Sanz], Elena [Goodman] and Angela [Ho] are right on the verge. Sydney [Wilson] has had a fantastic fall and Tallia [Harper] is a proven winner coming back from injury.Â
