HOW IT HAPPENED
- The host Rainbow Warriors hit a robust .786 to .143 for the Matadors in the opening set. Hawai'i claimed six of the first seven points of the set and never looked back. A Hobus kill brought CSUN back within four at 9-5 but the Matadors would get no closer in dropping the set, 25-15.
- CSUN blocked and served its way back into the match in set two, winning 25-19. With the score knotted at 6-6, a 4-1 CSUN run, capped by a Jano Tello kill, opened up a 10-7 lead. A block by Constable and Eitan pushed the lead to 12-8 before the Matadors would take a 15-10 lead into the media timeout. Still leading by five at 22-17, CSUN would get kills from Hobus and Constable, along with a Hobus ace to take the win.
- The third set was tied a total of 12 times before the hosts pulled out a 27-25 win. The Matadors only led twice in the frame, at 22-21 following a Walters kill and at 23-22 on a Phillips kill. Hobus had eight kills in the set but CSUN committed a pair of service in the closing points before a Sakanoko ace ended the set.
- After the score was tied 3-3 early on, Hawai'i went on an 8-3 run to open up an 11-6 advantage. Another Hobus kill trimmed the deficit to four at 12-8 but CSUN would get no closer the rest of the set.
