EUGENE, Ore.---CSUN Track & Field's Trey Knight wrapped up his stay at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials with a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw final round on Sunday at Hayward Field.
Knight closed a historic first season with CSUN at his first Olympic Trials. His best throw of the day would come on his third and final throw, a toss of 73.57m (241-4). However, that throw missed the cut for the final top eight by just three inches. The top three in the final round qualified for the Olympics.
Knight made his Olympic Trial debut this week, capping an unforgettable first year with CSUN. Knight was named a First Team All-American in the hammer throw, finishing sixth overall at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a toss of 74.00m (242-9). He also was named Big West Field Athlete of the Year while he won the Big West hammer throw title after a toss of 75.10m (246-6) at the conference championships. In the school record book, Knight also holds the hammer throw record of 76.99m (252-7) set this season at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Earlier this year, Knight enjoyed a banner indoor campaign where he finished second in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston, earning First Team All-American honors. Knight also won the MPSF weight throw title and earned the MPSF Athlete of the Year award.
ACCORDING TO ASSISTANT COACH DAN LANGE
"It's truly been a magical year for us. Trey's growth and development both as an athlete and a person has been nothing short of phenomenal. None of this would have been possible without the support of Coach Johnson and the rest of the CSUN staff. We are looking forward to next season!"
