
CSUN Win Streak Snapped in 3-1 Loss at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. — The CSUN Women's Volleyball had its three-match winning streak snapped in a 3-1 road loss Saturday night, falling to UC Irvine (25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 25-11) at the Bren Events Center.
Junior libero Paige Sentes led CSUN with 13 digs in the match, becoming the 11th player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs with her 10th scoop midway through the third set.
Despite a strong defensive effort that produced 10 team blocks, the Matadors (10-7, 3-3 Big West) couldn't sustain their momentum after taking the second set. Leah Miller led CSUN with eight kills (.121) and two blocks, while setters Jan Marie Duhaylungsod and Katie Kolar combined for 26 assists and 10 digs. Kyleigh Moore chipped in seven kills (.138), a career-high 15 digs, and three block assists.
The Matadors rebounded from a sluggish start to claim the second set 25-21, hitting .125 behind timely swings from Miller and Tatiana Turgeon. CSUN, which limited UCI to a .154 attack clip in the frame, also received timely blocking from Iye Okolo and Hayley Ogden helped close the frame, combining for several late stops at the net.
However, UC Irvine (10-7, 3-3) controlled the final two sets behind 18 kills from Kendra Duffey and 13 from Ally Bolden. The Anteaters outhit CSUN .240 to .069 in the match and used a 75 percent sideout rate in the fourth set to close the match.
NOTES
- Sentes becomes the first Matador since Natalie Allen in 2014 to reach 1,000 career digs at CSUN.
- Cindy Ortiz (2009-12) owns the school record with 1,456 digs over four seasons.
- CSUN slips to 30-38 all-time against UC Irvine and 12-22 all-time against the Anteaters in Irvine.
