CSUN Handles Life Pacific 106-43 in Home Matchup

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN women's basketball team (3-3) defeated the Life Pacific Warriors 106-43 Wednesday afternoon at Premier America Credit Union Arena. Morgan Edwards led all scorers with 21 points as five different Matadors scored in double figures. Rita Nazario added 19 points as she went 5-9 from distance in the victory. All 12 players that suited up for the Matadors found the scoring column.

FIRST HALF
CSUN jumped out in front of the Warriors early and never looked back. The Matadors started the game on an 18-3 run, with 10 points from Nazario right out of the gate. The sophomore from Portugal drained two shots from distance in the early going. After an LPU layup made it an 18-5 game at the 3:55 mark, CSUN closed the quarter on a 10-5 run with balanced scoring all around. Seven different Matadors scored points in the period. The Matadors also got it done on the rebounding end, out hustling the Warriors 16-5 in the first.

In the second quarter, the Matador lead widened. CSUN posted a 23-3 run, as Kelly Tumlin contributed six points, Laini Dahlin scored five and Edwards tallied five in the run to go with four made threes in the quarter. The CSUN defense was stifling as well, making the Warriors go 0-4 from distance in the largest run of the game so far. Adrianna Torres hit a pull-up jumper to end the drought for LPU. CSUN ended the quarter on another run, this time of the mini variety, 11-6 with five points from Amya Moody and three points from Saray White. CSUN headed into the break with a 62-18 lead.

SECOND HALF
Dahlin opened the quarter with a three-point shot from the corner, but LPU quickly responded with a jump shot from Torres, who scored 11 points for the Warriors. Nazario countered with a three of her own, as she now had 16 points to make it 68-20 at the 8:24 mark in the third. Brooklyn Waldram, the leading scorer for LPU, drained a shot from downtown to match Nazario to make it 68-23. The winning team then went on a 16-2 run, capped off by a Moody jumper to make it 84-25 with 1:49 remaining in the third. The scoreboard read 84-28 heading into the final 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, CSUN added 22 more points to LPU's 15. The Matadors held the Warriors to only one made three in the second half. Seven different Matadors scored in the fourth period. Â
