HONOLULU, Hawai'i — CSUN women's volleyball couldn't overcome a dominant Hawai'i attack Friday night, falling in straight sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-15) in a Big West match at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Matadors (14-11, 7-7 Big West) hit just .027 as a team while struggling to find rhythm against the Rainbow Wahine's imposing front line. Hawaii (10-14, 6-7) controlled the match from the start, out-blocking CSUN 12-6 and limiting the visitors to single-digit kills in each set.
Sophomore Hayley Ogden and junior Julia Bazylevych each had five kills to lead CSUN. Ogden hit .154 on 13 swings, while Bazylevych hit .042 on 24 attacks. Iye Okolo hit a team-best .375 with four kills on eight swings, and libero Paige Sentes anchored the CSUN defense with 11 digs.
CSUN's offense never found consistency, hitting negative in the first set (-.026) and finishing with 24 kills to 21 errors on 110 attempts. The Matadors trailed early in each frame, unable to recover from Hawaii's fast starts and .316 team hitting percentage.
For Hawaii, Cha'lei Reid paced all players with 14 kills on .355 hitting, while Bri Gunderson added eight kills and five block assists. The Rainbow Wahine sided out at a 73% clip in the final set to seal the sweep in front of a crowd of 5,376.
