No. 10 CSUN Sweeps Cal Lutheran for 7th Straight Win

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Senior Lorenzo Bertozzi connected for a match-high 10 kills on .412 hitting to pace the 10th-ranked CSUN men's volleyball team to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 non-conference win over visiting Cal Lutheran on Friday night at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
The Matadors improve to 12-2 on the season while winning their seventh straight match, CSUN's longest such streak since winning eight straight in 2023.
Bertozzi knocked down his 10 kills on 17 swings to go with three aces, four digs, and one block. Jalen Phillips added nine kills (.300) and a pair of aces while Stilian Delibosov chipped in seven kills (.357), four aces, and four blocks. Three other Matadors had two aces apiece as CSUN served a season-high 14 against the Kingsmen.
In addition to a pair of aces, senior setter Donovan Constable had 32 assists, three blocks, and two digs as CSUN hit .296 (35-14-71) as a team. The Matadors held CLU to a .116 hitting clip while also out-blocking the Kingsmen (6.5-3) and out-digging CLU. 24-19. Libero Chris Karnezis led all players in the match with nine digs.
S1 l CSUN 25, CLU 18 – CSUN wasn't able to get much separation for Cal Lutheran in the early going, leading by three on a pair of occasions before a Phillips kill opened up a 13-9 lead. Still leading by four at 17-13, the Matadors would outscore the visitors 8-5 down the stretch to seal a 25-18 win on a Phillips/Delibosov block.
S2 l CSUN 25, CLU 21 – After hitting .440 in set one, the Matadors were limited to a .217 clip over the final two sets. CSUN claimed the first four points of the second set and would never trail in the set. Still up four at 6-2, the Matadors surrendered a 3-0 run that trimmed the lead to 6-5. CSUN answered with a 6-0 run, highlighted by a pair of kills each from Phillips and Joao Avila, as the Matadors opened up a 12-5 cushion. The Kingsmen rallied back to within three at 15-12 when CSUN engineered a 6-2 run to lead by as many as seven at 21-14. CLU closed to within three at 24-21 when Delibosov's kill sent the Matadors to the 25-21 win.
S3 l CSUN 25, CLU 20 – Neither team hit a high percentage in the final set but CSUN used a late spurt to pull out a 25-20 win. The set would feature a total of 10 ties, the last at 19-19, when a 4-0 Matador run all but sealed the sweep. Kills by Delibosov and Phillips along with a Phillips ace and a co-block from Delibosov and Constable fueled the run that clinched CSUN's seventh straight win.
