Women's Golf in Second After One Round of Soboba Classic

SAN JACINTO, Calif. - The CSUN women's golf team opened the spring portion of the 2024-25 season on Friday, firing a 3-over 291 to sit second in the seven-team UCR Soboba Classic at Soboba Springs Resort.
CSUN's round of 291 matches its fourth-best round of the season, with the Matadors just four shots behind UC Irvine, which leads at 1-under 287. CSUN is eight shots in front of third-place UC Riverside with British Columbia (300) and Cal State Fullerton (302) fifth in the seven-team field.
Nicole Tanoue is CSUN's low scorer after one round, carding an even-par 72 on Friday. Tanoue had six birdies on the day, four coming on the front nine where she was as low as 3-under through eight holes. Tanoue made the turn at 1-under before finishing 1-over on the back nine to finish the day at even-par 72. She heads into Saturday's second round just two shots behind Eastern Washington's Gabriella Ilardi who leads the 41-player field at 2-under 70.

"Just so proud of this team. All the work they've put in since the summer and over the winter break is starting to pay off. This tournament isn't over yet - we're going to focus on what we can control for tomorrow and stay in the present."
The Matadors will be paired with Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside for round two, which gets underway Saturday morning at 8:40 a.m.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- A trio of Matadors, Gracie Piar, Meghan Paracuelles, and Kim Turgut are also in the individual top 10 as each is tied for eighth at 1-over 73.
- Piar had a single birdie in round one but also had 16 pars and two bogeys. Paracuelles was 5-over through 11 holes before rallying to finish 4-under over her final seven holes (4 birdies, 3 pars) to close out a round of 73. Turgut was even through her opening nine holes before posting two of her three birdies over her final four holes to also finish the day at 1-over.Â
- Ariya Soldwisch rounded out the CSUN scoring, tying for 29th at 6-over 78 which is tied for 29th.
