Trey Knight Claims West Region Field Athlete of the Year Honors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN's senior thrower Trey Knight received the 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor West Region Field Athlete of the Year award on Thursday, as announced by the USTFCCCA.
A native of Ridgefield, Wash. Knight represented CSUN on March 14 at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach., Va. Knight finished as the national runner-up in the weight throw for the second straight year, charting a throw of 24.49m (80-4.25). His throw was less than two feet short of first place. Knight's performance earned him First Team All-America honors for the second straight year in the weight throw.
It would be a banner indoor season for Knight in 2025. He would top his own school record in the the weight throw at the Nevada Invitational, posting the third-best collegiate throw in history at 24.87m (81-7.25). That performance would earn him National Athlete of the Week honors.
Knight went on to become the first Matador in school history to win back-to-back weight throw titles at the 2025 MPSF Indoor Championships on Feb. 21 with a top throw of 23.26m (76-3.75). He made more history after the event by winning his second consecutive MPSF Male Athlete of the Year award.
In his two indoor seasons at CSUN, Knight has earned two First-Team All-America awards, two major MPSF honors and won six of eight total events.
Up next, Knight will set his sights to the outdoor season where he will compete in the hammer throw. Last outdoor season, Knight earned First-Team All-America honors as well in the hammer throw while he won the title at the Big West Outdoor Championships.
