Beach Volleyball Splits Friday Tri-Dual in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - Dylan Hall and Hannah Heflin picked up two more wins as CSUN Beach Volleyball split a Friday tri-dual, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville before falling to host Concordia at OC Great Park. Hall and Heflin improved to 15-2 as a pair as the Matadors season record stands at 13-13 after the split.
CSUN 3, TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE 2
In Friday's opener, the Matadors picked up their 13th win of the season in the first-ever match between the two teams. CSUN dropped the top two pairs but picked up wins in the No. 3's, No. 4's, and No. 5's to earn the win. Hall and Heflin's 14th win in the No. 3 pair highlighted the Matador victories, while Haley Coggins and Ainsley Patrick also won in the No. 4 pair and Maleya Miles and Layla Cederlind earned their 12th win in the No. 5 pair. The other two pairs went to the Javalinas as TAMUK took a three-set win over Tasha Mae and Kinley Lindhardt in the No. 1 pair before taking the No. 2 pair in straight sets.Â

CONCORDIA 4, CSUN 1
In Friday's finale, the host Golden Eagles defeated the Matadors for the second time this season. Hall and Heflin were the lone CSUN pair to earn a win against CUI, defeating the pair of Kelia Giusta and Gabrielle Reinking, 21-18, 21-8 for their 15th win in 17 matches this season. The remaining four pairs all went to the Golden Eagles, who also defeated the Matadors 3-2 in Northridge on Mar. 7. CUI won the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 pairs in straight sets before the team of Ashley Rossi and Sam Campion held off Miles and Cederlind in three sets, 21-13, 13-21, 15-11. Â
COACH ARI HOMAYUNÂ SAID
"Not the outcome that we hoped for, but still happy to get at least one win today. There is something that Concordia does that just works against us, and we need to figure out what that is exactly. They are a program we are going to play every single year, so we will keep getting opportunities. April finally slows down for us, so I'm excited to get some solid weeks of practice in before our Big West Tournament."

The Matadors will remain on the road for fo a single dual match next weekend, taking on Cal State Bakersfield for the third time this season on Saturday, Apr. 5Â at the Swanson Beach Complex.
