CSUN Takes on No. 7 UCLA in Westwood Tuesday
3/31/2025 1:30:00 PM | Softball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN Softball (15-16, 8-3 Big West) will once again hit the road as the Matadors take on the UCLA Bruins (32-5, 7-1 Big Ten) at Easton Stadium Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The game will be livestreamed on Big10+.
Â
LAST TIME IN THE BATTER'S BOX
CSUN took care of business by winning their series against UC Riverside this past weekend. The Matadors swept the doubleheader on Friday before losing the final game of the series in walk-off fashion on Saturday. In the doubleheader, the Matadors won 6-4 in game one on the heels of three home runs. CSUN then took game two in a pitcher's duel, 2-1. Tiara Westbrook, Jadyn Nielsen, and Reagan Jackson all notched homers in game one. In game two, pitcher Isabella Alonso shut down the Highlanders' offense, allowing only one run on three hits.
Â
In game three, it was once again a pitcher's duel that went to the 11th inning. However, CSUN couldn't come away with the third game when it fell 3-2.
Â
LEADING THE BIG WEST IN PITCHING - YOUR CSUN MATADORS
In Big West play, CSUN is leading the conference in pitching statistics. The Matadors are number one in ERA in Big West games with a 2.22 mark. CSUN has allowed the fewest runs (33) and struck out 38 in 82 innings. CSUN has also allowed the second fewest hits with 79.
Â
TIARA WESTBROOK - THE TRANSFER THAT BRINGS THE FIRE
Westbrook transferred to CSUN from Oregon State this past season and has already had an immediate impact on this Matador lineup. Earlier this season, she had a superb performance in the Mary Nutter Classic. Westbrook took Big West Player of the Week honors for her contributions. She batted .588 with a .882 slugging percentage. Overall, Westbrook is leading the team in home runs with three, in RBI with 22 and in total bases with 47.
Â
KYLIE GALINDO FOR MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
Galindo is currently on a tear at the plate this season. Last year, her junior year, Galindo batted .226 as the primary catcher. She has obliterated that mark so far this year. She is currently batting .439 to lead the team. She has 25 hits, 11 runs batted in and one home run. The senior from Rancho Cucamonga is coming off a series against Long Beach State where she batted .700 with nine total bases against some of the best pitchers in the Big West. To play well at the plate and to play good defense as a catcher is a rarity, both Galindo is proving she can do both.
Â
CARRANCO THE CAPTAIN IN THE CIRCLE
Carranco has been the best Matador pitcher seemingly since she first put on the uniform her freshman year. She has had impressive numbers during her first two seasons, and her junior year is no different. The junior from Clovis is 8-5 with a 2.58 ERA (good enough for fifth in the Big West) against some very strong opponents. She has 21 complete games so far this season while tallying 72 strikeouts in the process. She already has 108 innings pitched in 16 appearances. Carranco was a Preseason All Big-West Team honoree and she is proving to be worthy of that accolade so far.
Â
SCOUTING UCLA
The Bruins enter Tuesday's matchup ranked No. 7 in the country. They have a 32-5 record and are 9-0 at home. UCLA has three players batting over. 400 on the season. Jordan Woolery leads the team with a .436 batting average. Savannah Pola is right behind her with a .434 average. Then, Rylee Slimp is third on a team with a .421 average.
Â
UCLA is led in the circle by a couple of dominant arms. Kaitlyn Terry is 13-3 with a 1.44 ERA. She has six complete games in 18 appearances. She also leads the team with 104 strikeouts. Addison Fisher isn't too bad, either. She sports an 11-0 record with a 2.16 ERA. Fisher has 68 strikeouts with four complete games.Â
Â
Series History: CSUN is 10-49 all time against UCLA. The Matadors last win came on March 6, 2013, where the Matadors won 3-2 at Matador Diamond.
