CSUN Ends Season Dropping Decision to Hawai’i

MANOA, HI -- CSUN Women's Basketball fell to the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine 62-36 on Saturday at SimpliFi Arena. Nnenna Orji led the way with 15 points and Erica Adams added eight points in their respective final collegiate games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN kicked off the game with a drive in layup by Orji which made it 2-0 in the early going. After the early Matador bucket, Hawai'i ended the quarter on a 15-4 run. Alondra Lizama accounted for the other two points.
In the second quarter, after two made free throws by the Rainbow Wahine, Adams drove into the paint for her first points of the game to make it 17-6 with 8:24 left in the half. Orji accounted for the next four points as both teams traded buckets. UH ended the quarter on a 7-0 run as the score was 27-12 entering the halftime break.
2ND HALF
Orji broke double figures with her first basket of the second half. A driving layup that made the score 27-14. After a made shot by the Rainbow Wahine, Orji knocked down another shot, this time via the hook variety, to make it 29-16 at the 6:37 mark. Hawai'i then went on a 7-1 run before Jenna Kilty hit the first shot from distance of the game for the Matadors. Kilty's three made it 36-20 with 3:02 remaining in the third.
UH followed Kilty's bucket with a mini 5-0 run, until Adams made an and-one bucket plus a free-throw to make it 41-23 as the quarter ended.
In the fourth quarter, the Rainbow Wahine kicked things off with a 6-1 run. CSUN ended the run with a shot from downtown by Kayla Hopson. Hopson then hit a driving layup to cut the lead to 20 at 49-29 with 6:18 left to play. UH rattled off five points in a row before Adams drained a shot from the top of the key to make it 54-32. No teams went on a major run to finish the game, as the time ran out on a Matador comeback.

- CSUN ends the season 4-25 and 2-18 in Big West play.
- Orji scored in double figures 11 out of her last 13 games as a Matador.
- To go with her eight points, Adams had a career high 12 rebounds.
- CSUN held the Rainbow Wahine to 23.5% shooting from the outside.
