CSUN Sweeps Youngstown State, 4-0

NORTHRIDGE, Calif --- CSUN faced Youngstown State and swept the Penguins, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. This victory is the Matadors' third in a row, as Yuliia Zhytelna won her singles' bout, her fourth in a row. Sofia Dermenjyan won her singles match, improving to 3-0 on the season. '

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN took the first point of the day, sweeping doubles competition. The first half point was won by Zhytelna and Madison Shepperson as they beat Lorena Cedeno and Yoana Dudova, 6-1. CSUN then clinched the doubles point when Emma Moratalla Sanz and Elena Goodman bested Lili Minich and Line Greyling, 6-2.

After CSUN won the doubles point, the singles' competitions kicked off. The Matadors wasted no time putting more points on the board, as Zhytelna defeated Julia Marko, 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets to make the score 2-0.Â

Dermenjyan followed Zhytelna with a win of her own, coming out on top versus Dudova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 to make it 3-0.

The junior from North Hollywood shared her thoughts on the game today: "I had some ups and downs in my match today, but I was able to stay composed mentally and execute in big moments." Dermenjyan said. "Overall, as a team, everyone was competing with a contagious fighting energy."

CSUN was victorious in the next singles match as Victoria Santibanez Luna overcame Yeseniia Ovcharova, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), as Santibanez Luna clinched the victory for the Matadors.Â
