NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN women's golf team is set to tee off the 2025 Big West Women's Golf Championship on Sunday at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas. Nine teams will play 54 holes over three days (Apr. 13-15) in a battle for the Big West crown.
The three-day championship tournament will be contested for the third straight year at Spanish Trail Country Club, a 27-hole championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The nine teams across The Big West are set to battle for the automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships.
In 2024, Long Beach State claimed the team championship while the Beach's Jasmine Leovao repeated as individual champion, finishing at 4-under 212.
The Matadors are seeded eighth in the championship and will be paired with No. 7 seed Hawai'i and No. 9 seed Cal State Bakersfield for Sunday's opening round.
Head coach Michelle Winkler's five-player lineup will consist of Nicole Tanoue, Gracie Piar, Ariya Soldwisch, Kim Turgut, and Meghan Paracuelles. Sophomore Ellie Shirley will be CSUN's alternate.
With the exception of freshman Soldwisch, the Matadors have plenty of Big West Championship experience as Piar and Turgut will compete at the conference championship for the third time while Tanoue and Paracuelles will each make their second appearance. Piar owns the best finish of the current CSUN players, finishing tied for 10th last year at 8-over 224. Turgut's best finish at the championship also came in 2024 when she finished in a tie for 22nd at 17-over 233.
Tanoue finished tied for 19th at 14-over 230 in her Big West Championship debut, while Paracuelles placed 37th at 23-over 239 last year.
As a team, the Matadors have three tournament wins this season in addition to a dual match win over Cal State Bakersfield in November. Piar comes into the championship with a team-leading 74.96 scoring average and has five top 10 and three top 20 finishes this season. She also has one CSUN's three individual wins after capturing the WMU Bronco Fall Classic in October. Tanoue ranks second in scoring average (75.12), while also posting three top 10 and a pair of top 20 finishes. Soldwisch (76.0) has five top 10s and one top 20 finish this season while tying for first at the Eagle Invitational in September. Turgut (76.96) has two top 10 finishes and three top 20s this season while Paracuelles (78.81) has one top 10 and one top 20 in 2025.Â
CSUN, which took home Big West Championships in both 2003 and 2004, is looking to replicate or better its team finish from 2019 when the Matadors finished second to Long Beach State. CSUN also finished as championship runner-up to UC Davis in 2014.
Â
Brianna Steger had CSUN's best finish in recent years, finishing as individual runner-up in 2019 after posting rounds of 69-71-77 to finish at (+1) 217 at Moorpark Country Club. The Matadors have had three players win or tie for the individual championship, Beth Allen in 2003 and 2004 and Clariss Guce in 2014.
