
CSUN Track & Field Sends Seven to NCAA West Regionals

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---A total of seven athletes across the CSUN Track & Field teams have qualified for the 2025 NCAA West First Round this week. This year's west regional will be held at E.B. Cushing in College Station, Texas from May 28-31.

Heading to Texas will be Trey Knight (hammer), Joey Nations (long jump), Chase Mars (100m, 200m), Tibyasa Matovu (400m) and Jay Louison-Roe (triple jump) on the men's team while Summer Mosley (hammer and discus) and Jasmine Haskell (400m) is set to compete from the CSUN women's team. Each athlete will look to punch their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, set for June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
Knight has qualified for the NCAA West First Round for the fourth time in the hammer throw in his exceptional collegiate career. His hammer throw toss of 77.91m (255-7) at the Trojan Invitational broke his own school record while it ranked second-best in the nation. Knight would repeat as the Big West hammer throw champion with his throw of 73.11m (239-10). At last year's NCAA West First Round, Knight qualified for nationals by taking third place overall. He went on to finish sixth overall at the 2024 NCAA's, earning first team All-American honors.
Nations is making his NCAA West First Round debut in what already has been a career season for the junior. He set a personal record with his leap of 7.58m (24-10.5) at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational in April. That leap ranked 10th-best in CSUN history. Nations went on to win his first career Big West title at the conference championships with a mark of 7.53m (24-8.5). His Big West long jump title win was the Matadors' first since 2010.
Louison-Roe will make his first appearance at the NCAA regional this week in the triple jump where he ranks in the top-25 in the region. He would set a personal record at the Big West Championships with his mark of 15.67m (51-5) to claim the conference triple jump title. That leap ranked 10th-best in Matador program history. Louison-Roe also took first place in the triple jump this season at the Desert Heat Classic and the Mt. SAC Relays.
Matovu has enjoyed an outstanding first season with CSUN in 2025. He would break the Matadors' outdoor 400m record at the Desert Heat Classic earlier in May with a time of 46.01. Matovu finished second overall in the 400m at the Big West Championships after running at 46.96 while he claimed first place this season at the UNLV Rebel ELITE and the Trojan Invitational. This west regional appearance is the first of his collegiate career.
Mars qualified for his second consecutive NCAA West First Round in both the 100m and the 200m. Ranked in the top-40 in the region in both categories, Mars recorded a season-best 100m time of 10.26 at the UNLV Rebel ELITE where he was second overall. Mars would make it to the 200m final round at the Big West Championships after a season-best time of 20.69 in the prelims. Overall, Mars had 200m first-place finishes at the UNLV Rebel ELITE and the Vince O'Boyle Classic. At last year's NCAA West First Round, Mars took third place in the 200m before he eventually finished 19th overall at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Mosley will represent the CSUN women's team in both the hammer and the discus at the NCAA West First Round. After not competing last year, Mosley made a splash in her first season with CSUN, ranking in the top-30 in the region in the hammer and the discus. She would record the second-best hammer throw performance in school history at the Trojan Invitational with a mark of 61.71m (202-5) before taking the Big West title in the event with a toss of 59.66m (195-9). Mosley would also win the Big West discus championship this season with a personal-record throw of 53.51m (175-7), good enough for fourth-best in school history. On the season, Mosley has three first-place finishes in the hammer throw and in the discus. Mosley previously competed in the NCAA West First Round in 2022 and 2023 while with USC.
Haskell will make her first career appearance at the NCAA West First Round this week. An Arizona State transfer, Haskell posted her best 400m performance of the season at the Big West Championship where she took third place overall with her time of 53.71 in the final round. Earlier this season, Haskell took first place in the 400m at the Vince O'Boyle Classic by clocking a time of 55.46.
In field events, the top 12 overall will advance to Eugene at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, while in running events, athletes will be divided into six heats with the top three times in each heat, plus the next six times, advancing to the quarterfinals. In the track quarterfinal events, the top three in each heat plus the next three best times will advance to Eugene.
