Kelpis to Compete at Big West Multis, CSUN Heads to Fullerton This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field kicks off the 2025 Big West Championship with the multi-event championships from Friday to Saturday at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track. The Matador men's and women's teams will also send a small contingent to Cal State Fullerton for the Titan Tune-Up on Friday.

The CSUN Women's Track & Field team sends Brianna Kelpis to compete in the heptathlon at this weekend's multi-events championship. Kelpis is set to participate in seven total events over the two-day championship with the 100m-hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash set for Friday and the long jump, javelin and 800m scheduled for Saturday. Kelpis has previously competed in the Big West heptathlon three times from 2021-23, finishing as high as fourth place in 2022.

The Matadors have 17 total athletes across the men's and women's teams entered in events for this weekend's Titan Tune-Up. The event will serve as the last stop for the Matador track & field teams before embarking on the Big West Championship next week where the remainder of the conference championship events will take take place.
On the men's team, the following have entered events in Fullerton: Caden Bazo, Alec Flores, Elijah Ignacio, Francisco Isiordia, Darrick Jacob, Jr., Ramiro Mateos and Diego Rodriguez. CSUN's women's team have the following group scheduled to compete: Amani Britton, Sakura Divecchio, Savannah Ganter, Jocelyn Hoggard, Jaelyn Lee, Myli Level, Elin Markarian, Summer Mosley and Ada Murray.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN split up its roster last week and competed at two meets where the Matadors racked up four total individual victories. At the University of Arizona's Desert Heat Classic, Jay Louison-Roe won the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.32m (50-3.25) while the men's 4x400m team of Gabe Martinez, Logan Davis, Walter Pierce and Tibyasa Matovu won their third event of the season by running at 3:08.73. At the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Summer Mosley picked up wins in the hammer throw with a toss of 60.67m (199-0) and in the discus with a throw of 52.76m (173-1).
Matovu also reset the Matador record book in the 400m at the Desert Heat Classic, by breaking the outdoor record with a time of 46.01 to take third place. In CSUN history, Matovu holds the outdoor and indoor 400m records as he broke the indoor mark earlier this year (46.80).

CSUN sets its sights on week two of the Big West Championship where the men's and women's teams vie for conference titles at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track. The two-day meet is set for May 16-17.
