LUCERNE, Switzerland - Former CSUN All-American Felix Mory captured his second professional tour event title on Sunday (June 8), winning the Swiss Challenge title at Golf Sempach.
Mory, who earned his first professional win on the Challenge Tour at the Dormy Open in Åkersberga, Sweden in May 2021, defeated Spain's Santiago Tarrio on the first playoff hole to claim his second professional win as part of the newly-named HotelPlanner Tour.
"I'm very happy," Mory said. "It was such a tough day today. The course played really hard, and it was very windy and gusty. I'm just happy the way I handled myself, and it's a bonus to win in these conditions. I did a good job the whole tournament."
Mory took a two-shot lead into the final round, and quickly extended his advantage with a birdie on his opening hole. However, back-to-back bogeys followed as the Frenchman carded a two-over-par round of 74, meaning he finished on 15 under par, level with Sweden's Björn Hellgren and one shot clear of three-time Challenge Tour winner Ricardo Gouveia.
The Frenchman signed for a 2-under par round of 69 on the final day to reach 12-under par for the week alongside Tarrio, before Mory birdied the first extra hole to secure victory.
"I don't find play-offs too nerve-wracking," Mory added. "My win in 2021 came in a play-off. I enjoy play-offs in a way. It's fun, and you just try to do your best."
Mory started the day three shots off the lead but closed the gap with a birdie at the first hole, despite winds of up to 40 miles per hour blowing through Lucerne. The Frenchman dropped his first shot of the day on the seventh hole but responded with a second gain of the day on No. 13. He carded an eagle at No. 17 saw him take the lead, before Tarrio responded with a birdie at the last to take it to a play-off. But Mory would go on to birdie the first extra hole.
