CSUN Remains Unbeaten With Scoreless Draw at San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. – CSUN Men's Soccer (2-0-3) remained unbeaten to start the 2025 season, earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw on the road at San Jose State (4-1-1) on Thursday night at Spartan Soccer Field.
The Matadors held their ground in a physical contest that saw 34 fouls and seven yellow cards between the two sides. Both teams generated scoring chances throughout, but goalkeepers Bryan Castaneda for CSUN and Edgar Guerra for the Spartans each posted clean sheets.
Castaneda recorded four saves, including key stops in both halves to preserve the shutout. On the offensive side, Jorge Solorzano and Zion Wagoner led the Matadors with two shots apiece, while Siddiq Lezzar and Eyifehn Forfor also tested the Spartan defense. CSUN totaled eight shots, placing two on goal.
San Jose State outshot the Matadors 15-8 and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, but CSUN's defensive unit, anchored by Lezzar, Jake Shaked, and Luke Lawrence held strong to deny the Spartans a breakthrough.
The result marked CSUN's second consecutive draw and fifth game in a row to start the season without allowing a goal.

- CSUN has not allowed a goal in its first five matches, the longest streak by a Matador team in the program's Division I era. Overall, CSUN last accomplished the feat in the 1985 when the team played as a Division II program.
- This 2-0-3 start is the best start to a season for CSUN since the 2019 season, where the Matadors began the campaign 4-0-1.
- Castaneda became the second Matador goalkeeper to achieve a shutout in 2025.
- Lezzar, Solorzano and Wagoner each had two shots in the tie.
- Each team had 17 fouls.
