CSUN Edges Pacific 2-1 Behind Solorzano, Fuentes Goals
9/14/2025 10:18:00 PM | Men's Soccer
STOCKTON, Calif. — Jorge Solorzano and Sebastian Fuentes found the back of the net in the first half as CSUN held on for a 2-1 road victory over Pacific on Sunday night at Knoles Field.
In the first half, CSUN put the pressure on early. Arturo Reveles fired a shot high to the left in the eighth minute, but Pacific goalkeeper Mateus Ruiz-Hurst made the save. In the 12th minute, Solorzano placed a low shot toward the left side, stopped by Ruiz-Hurst.
A handball by the Pacific defense led to a penalty kick for Solorzano. The man they call "Solo" calmly netted a shot in the right bottom corner of the net. That shot put the Matadors on top in the 23rd minute, 1-0.
The Tigers answered just two minutes later when Jose Maria Barrera slotted in the equalizer off assists from Luca Baltzer and James Andrew.
Fuentes delivered the match-winner in the 40th minute, striking low to the right corner past the diving Ruiz-Hurst to give CSUN a 2-1 edge before halftime.
The Matadors generated steady pressure throughout the opening frame with 11 first-half shots.
CSUN had more chances in the second half. The Matadors opened the half with a corner in the 49th minute, followed by a blocked attempt from Siddiq Lezzar. Shortly after, Enrique Pineda and Solorzano both had looks with Pineda missing wide in the 56th and high in the 60th, while Solorzano had two chances in the 61st and 63rd minutes that were off target or blocked.
Goalkeeper Dorian Drucks was key in protecting the one-goal lead. Drucks came up big in the 58th and 67th minutes, denying shots from Pacific's Andrew and Maria Barrera.
The final 20 minutes turned chippy. In the 80th minute, a scuffle led to three red cards — one to Axel Agurcia and two to Pacific players. The Matadors finished with 10 men while the Tigers finished with nine.
In the closing stretch, there was more action. Pacific pressed late, earning a handful of free kicks and forcing CSUN to defend deep. Solorzano had one more chance in the 84th minute but fired high. Drucks and the backline held firm against more Tiger attacks as the Matadors saw out the 2-1 win.
GAME NOTES
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
"Tough battle on the road at Pacific. It was a choppy game with a lot of fouls disrupting the flow, but not every win has to be pretty. The team dug deep and found a way to get it done. Big shoutout to Sebastian for scoring his first college goal, and what a time to do it, netting the game-winner on the road. Proud of the grit. Let's keep building."
