CSUN Falls to No. 8 LMU & Boise State at Battle for LA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — CSUN Beach Volleyball wrapped up its time at the Battle for Los Angeles tournament, falling 4-1 to No. 8 Loyola Marymount and 5-0 to Boise State on Saturday at the LMU Beach Volleyball Courts.
#8 LMU 4, CSUN 1
Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert delivered a three-set victory at No. 4 flight to highlight CSUN's effort, but No. 8 Loyola Marymount claimed a 4-1 win over the Matadors to open Saturday's competition.
Coggins and Halbert rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Liv Johnson and Anja Trailovic, 18-21, 21-18, 15-13, securing CSUN's lone point of the dual. Their comeback win evened the match at 1-1 at the time and marked the first victory of the season for the Matadors' No. 4 pair.
LMU (4-4) won the other four counted matches to improve to .500 on the year, while CSUN fell to 0-4.
The Lions claimed the No. 6 exhibition pair, where Clover Crenshaw and Brooke Bowers topped Alyssa Schuhlein and Kalli Sanchez, 21-15, 21-18. LMU followed with a straight-set win at No. 2 as Magdalena Rabitsch and Ines Piret defeated Tia Mendiola and Dylan Hall, 21-11, 21-15.
After CSUN's point at No. 4, LMU regained control. At the top flight, Tanon Rosenthal and Anna Pelloia posted a 21-19, 21-13 victory over Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles. The Lions clinched the dual at No. 3, where Chloe Hooker and Josefine Schaekel downed Jill Rodig and Zaria Henderson, 21-19, 21-12.
Katie McAlister and Ellie Davis added a 21-11, 21-14 win over Phoebe Constable and Ava Rogers at No. 5 to round out the scoring.
BOISE STATE 5, CSUN 0
In the second dual of the day, CSUN pushed Boise State to three sets on two courts but could not break through as the Broncos posted a 5-0 sweep.
The Matadors (0-5) forced decisive third sets at No. 1 and No. 4, highlighting a competitive showing despite the final score.
At the top flight, Heflin and Miles opened with a 21-18 first-set win over Serena van der Made and Allyson Alden before Boise State rallied for a 21-17, 15-12 victory to close the match.
Constable and Rogers also extended their match at No. 4. After taking the first set 24-22, the CSUN duo dropped the next two, 21-17, 17-15, in a tightly contested battle.
Boise State (4-3) secured the team win with straight-set victories on the remaining courts. At No. 2, Addison Wolden and Ava Anderson defeated Mendiola and Hall, 21-16, 21-18. Avery Allen and Addison Moss topped Rodig and Henderson, 21-16, 21-12, at No. 3.
The Broncos added wins at No. 5, where Avery Bowidowicz and Summer McCann defeated Coggins and Halbert, 21-9, 21-13, and at No. 6, where Elli Wolthuis and Lily Patock outlasted Schuhlein and Sanchez, 23-21, 21-18.
HEAD COACH JEFF HALL SAID
"We are getting better each dual, but the wins are hard to come by. I love our cooperative spirit and know a W is coming soon. Today, both teams were better than us."

CSUN will return to USC's Merle Norman Stadium next Tuesday (Mar. 3) as the Matadors take on the No. 4 Trojans at 10 a.m. and Stetson at 2 p.m.
