Matadors Drop Morning Matchup Against Washington, 10-2

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team fell to the University of Washington Huskies, 10-2 in five innings to open the second day of the Reggie Smith Invitational hosted by the University of San Diego at Reggie Smith Softball Complex. Maddie Padilla and Madilyn Hernandez both drove in a run for the Matadors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Washington scored six runs in the top of the first. After a leadoff single, Alexis DeBoer homered to left field to give the Huskies an early 2-0 lead.

After two consecutive singles, a third single scored knocked in the Huskies' third run. The next batter, Sophi Mazzola homered to deep right field with two runners on to increase the lead to 6-0.

In the bottom of the first, CSUN cut into the lead. Madison Okano and Isabella Valdez both singled to kick off the inning. After a lineout, Raegan Jackson then singled to load the bases for Padilla. Padilla promptly singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Okano to put CSUN on the scoreboard at 6-1. Hernandez brought home Valdez on a groundout to cut the deficit to 6-2.

Washington extended its lead in the second inning behind a two-run home run from Giselle Alvarez. The Huskies capitalized on a CSUN error later in the frame, adding two unearned runs on RBI singles by Mazzola and Melody Acevedo to make it 10-2.

The Huskies pitching duo of Morgan Reimer and Ryan Maddox combined for three strikeouts, blanking CSUN the rest of the way as the game would end via run rule.

NOTES OF THE GAME
CSUN will wrap up the Reggie Smith Invitational with a matchup against the host school, USD Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
