CSUN Knocks Off Connecticut College for Seventh Straight Victory

HONOLULU---CSUN Water Polo earned its seventh straight victory with a 13-2 victory over Connecticut College on Wednesday afternoon at Punahou School Pool in Hawai'i. Freshman Ella Furuholmen led the way with four goals while sophomore Mackenzie Wood finished with a hat trick in the win.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN led from start to finish, building a five goal lead in the first quarter. Wood netted her first goal of the match on a five-meter penalty shot while she added another goal at the 6:56 mark of the first quarter. CSUN scored three goals over the final 3:12 of the first period with Kianna Melvin, Raygan Carroll and Furuholmen each hitting the net. In the second period, CSUN extended to a seven goal lead with Abigel Kiss and Furuholmen each finding the scoring column. Connecticut College finally got on the scoreboard with 2:18 left in the second quarter as the Matadors led 7-1 at the break.Â
CSUN held the Camels scoreless in the third period while the Matadors picked up four more goals on the offensive end courtesy of Melvin, Wood, Leah Huisar and Furuholmen. The Camels scored early in the opening minute of the fourth period, but the Matadors held the opposition scoreless the rest of the way. Furuholmen netted her fourth goal of the match with 3:12 remaining on the contest while Lucie Lapuz closed the scoring with a tally on a 6-on-5 opportunity.Â

- Furuholmen has now scored 35 goals on the season after picking up four on Wednesday.Â
- Melvin also finished with a multi-goal effort, scoring twice.Â
- CSUN was only whistled for one exclusion in the contest.Â
