NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- CSUN men's soccer (1-1-0) used a three-goal first half and added two more goals after halftime to cruise past The Master's University Mustangs, 5-1, Thursday night at Matador Soccer Field. Kayvon Monfared tallied a brace in his home Matadors debut. It was the first time a Matador has registered two goals in one night since Deryk Jones Jr. scored two at UCSB on Oct. 23, 2024.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors dominated the offensive end with 25 shots, including 12 on target. CSUN also earned eight corner kicks while holding the Mustangs to three shots and no shots on goal.

Kayvon Monfared provided an early spark for the Matadors, scoring in the fifth minute to give CSUN a 1-0 advantage. It was a far strike on the left side of the pitch outside of the box, a shot off his right foot that caught the Mustang goalkeeper by surprise.

In a quick turnaround, Tito Oyewo doubled the lead less than two minutes later, finishing a chance assisted by Jorge Solorzano and Sebastian Fuentes. It was the sophomore from Valencia's first career goal and Solorzano's first assist since 2024.

Monfared struck again in the 26th minute. The senior transfer from Saint Mary's found the back of the net for his second goal of the night. His two-goal performance led the Matadors with six shots and three shots on goal.

CSUN carried a 3-0 advantage into halftime and the Matadors outshot the Mustangs, 17-1, during the opening 45 minutes. The Matadors also held a 9-0 advantage in shots on goal through the first half.

The Master's University got on the board in the second half on an own-goal in the 65th minute, but CSUN quickly responded. Seven minutes later, freshman defender Messiah Antwi scored his first career collegiate goal, a low center strike coming off passes from Solorzano and Fuentes yet again, both two assist nights from the seniors to make it 4-1.

With three minutes left to play, Michael Blevins capped off the five-goal night from the Matadors, a low-right goal assisted by Francisco Garibay. It was Blevins' first goal since 2024.

CSUN had 25 shots total and 12 shots on goal.
It was the first time CSUN has scored five or more goals since netting six versus San Francisco in 2019.
22 different Matadors saw action tonight.

"It feels great, first home game, first win. It takes everybody on this team to get the win. From the team, the coaches, even the guys on the field. I wouldn't be able to do any of that without them helping me. I'm a striker, so I got to do my job and score. However, the job's not done. We still got 18 games left, so I'm excited to be with a great group of guys and looking forward to winning some more games."

FRESHMAN MESSIAH ANTWI ON NETTING HIS FIRST CAREER GOAL
"The coaches are instilling confidence in me. They let me go in the midfield, instill, and I just let loose. I've been working hard in the offseason, just staying in the weight room a lot. I knew, coming in as a freshman, it'd be hard, like, getting used to the physicality at the college level. So, I just stayed in the weight room and worked on getting a little better each day."
