CSUN Heads to Pacific for Road Showdown with Tigers

GAME NOTES
STOCKTON, Calif. --- The CSUN men's soccer team (2-2-1) is set to take on the Pacific Tigers in a road contest on Sunday. Kick-off at Knoles Field is slated for 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

FOR STARTERS
CSUN's record of 2-2-1 places it third in the Big West. The Matadors have wins over The Master's University and Oral Roberts University, while tying Houston Christian. Both of CSUN's wins came at Matadors Soccer Field as the Matadors look for their first win on the road against Pacific.

After Pacific, CSUN plays two more non-conference games against San Jose State and Grand Canyon, both of which will be at home. The Matadors then will open up the Big West slate with a matchup against Cal State Bakersfield on Sep. 30.

LAST TIME OUT
CSUN suffered a 4-0 loss to top-ranked Stanford on Monday afternoon at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The Matadors would keep pace with the Cardinal in the shot department with each side posting 13 shots apiece, however, Stanford scored three first-half goals en route to the shutout victory.

CSUN withstood an early attack from the Cardinal, which included a shot from Trevor Islam that was denied by Dorian Drucks. However, a set piece would soon lead to the Cardinal finding the back of the net. Off a corner kick, Drucks attempted to secure possession for CSUN but could not, leading to Jayden Fitzgerald Boes scoring the game's first goal.

In the ensuing minutes, CSUN had shots reach frame from Kayvon Monfared and Daniel Garcia, but goalkeeper Rowan Schnebly turned away each chance.

Stanford made the most of its chances, taking advantage of a CSUN miscue in the 19th minute, as well as a 36th minute strike from Joshua Partal, set up by Logan Tsopanoglou.

MONFARED MAY BE THE MISSING PIECE
Kayvon Monfared has been stellar at the attack for the Matadors, providing a spark on the offense that has made the team a huge threat when getting the ball in the attacking third.

He is currently tied with all Big West players with the most goals on the season with three. He had a brace in his home debut against The Master's University on Aug. 27. It was the first time a Matador has registered two goals in one night since Deryk Jones Jr. scored two at UCSB on Oct. 23, 2024.

The senior from Anaheim Hills has played and started in all five games this season. Not only does he lead the team in goals, he leads the team in points and shots as well.

DORIAN IS THE STAR GOALKEEPER
Dorian Drucks continues to be a menace in between the posts for the Matadors. The senior from Essen, Germany tied for second in CSUN's single-season history with eight shutouts in 2025. That mark was also good enough for sixth best among all Division-I schools. His 69 saves led the Big West to go with a save percentage of .852. He averaged 4.31 saves per contest in 2025.

He also has one shutout already on the season, as he helped secure the 1-0 win against ORU on Sunday, Sep. 30. He was one-of-11 placed on the Big West Preseason Coaches' Team, announced on Aug. 13.

SCOUTING THE PACIFIC TIGERS
Pacific is currently 1-3-2 on the young campaign. In its most recent game, Pacific tied San Jose State, 2-2 in an away contest. Freshman Xavier Cisneros scored twice, including a late equalizer to earn the draw for the Tigers.

On the season, Pacific has tallied nine goals while giving up 13 on the defensive end. 21 of its 45 shots have been on goal.

Cisneros, Josephat Yangyuoru and Fateh Singh all have two goals each to lead the team. Six different Tigers have found the back of the net so far this season.

The goalkeeping load has been split between both Alejandro Caracheo Luna and Mateus Ruiz-Hurst. They both have 17 saves each and have yet to record a shutout.

SERIES HISTORY: Pacific and CSUN cross paths for the third straight season and second consecutive bout in Stockton. In 2025, the Matadors took a 2-1 victory at Knoles Field nearly a year ago to the day. Both teams have played five contests all time with the record being 2-2-1 between them.
