Chris Hom enters his fifth season as the Matadors' assistant coach. He serves as third base coach and helps with recruitment.
With Hom on the staff, the Matadors have won over 90 Division I games over a three-year period for just the second time in program history.
In 2016, the Matador defense posted a program record .978 team fielding percentage.
His first full recruiting class at CSUN – the class of 2014- was nationally recognized as one of the ‘Top Recruiting Classes in the Western Region’, according to Baseball America. Additionally, 14 members of the 2014-15 CSUN academic roster achieved a 3.00 GPA or higher.
He previously spent two years as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of San Francisco, where his duties included developing the team's catchers, academic support, facilities maintenance and camps. While on staff, USF reached the NCAA postseason in 2013. During the 2013 season Coach Hom's core of freshmen catchers lead the West Coast Conference with the fewest wild pitches and passed balls. He assisted in the academic support for a team that set a program record for team GPA.
Prior to joining the Dons, Hom was an assistant coach at the University of California, San Diego from 2009 to 2011. While with the Tritons, the team reached the NCAA Division II College World Series in 2009 and 2010 and hosted the program's first Division II regional in 2011. Hom coached six offensive All-Americans and three national Gold Glove winners while at UCSD and the Tritons led all of Division II in defense in both 2009 and 2010.
Chris oversees the internal operation of the Matador Baseball Program, along with Successful Speaker Series as part of the Diamond University Leadership Program.
Hom received his bachelors degree in communications from UC San Diego in 2008 and completed his masters in coaching and leadership administration at Concordia University in Irvine, CA in 2011.
