FRESNO, Calif. - The CSUN women's golf team posted a pair of solid rounds Monday and is third through 36 holes at the Fresno State Classic at San Joaquin Country Club.
Three Matadors are in the top-10 led by Cesilie Hagen who is tied for sixth. Teammates Arinda Bhanaraksa and Elisabeth Haavardsholm both share ninth place while Shenna DeLeon is 14th and Sharon Shin is in 22nd-place.
"The team made a great effort today and I'm really proud of them all," said CSUN head coach Gina Umeck. "This course was in fabulous shape. It resembles a lot of the tracks we play in LA, you have to be a little crafty and inventive on some of the holes."
Hagen opened with a three over-par 75 before cutting a stroke off that total with a two-over 74 in the afternoon. The sophomore is just three shots off the pace as she heads into the final round tied for sixth at five-over 149.
Bhanaraksa was tied with Hagen in sixth after an opening round 75 fired another 75 in the second round to slip into a three-way tie for ninth at six-over 150. Haavardsholm carded an opening round four-over 76 before matching Hagen for CSUN's low round with a second round 74.
DeLeon, playing in her first collegiate tournament, had a solid debut with rounds of 78-76. The freshman is currently tied for 14th at 10-over 154. Shin, who tied for CSUN's low tournament score in the season opening Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, struggled in the first round Monday morning with an 82 before bouncing back with a 78 in the afternoon round. Shin is alone in 22nd place at 16-over 160.
As a team, the Matadors posted team rounds of 304-299, their lowest of the young season and is third 10 shots behind host Fresno State.
CSUN will tee off the final round Tuesday morning beginning at 8:45 a.m.
