
Matadors Remain 13th Through Two Rounds of Ka'anapali Classic

KA'ANAPALI, Maui - In tough conditions, the CSUN men's golf team posted a second round 317 on Saturday and remains 13th through two rounds of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic at Ka'anapali G.C.
The Matadors, who carded a team round of 287 in perfect conditions Friday, struggled through windy and rainy conditions Saturday which showed in their second round 317.
"The conditions were tough today and right now we're just not doing a whole lot of things right." said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "I hope we can put togther a solid round tomorrow and put this fall behind us."
Michael O'Connor had CSUN's low round of the day as he carded a four-over 75 which left him tied for 34th at four-over 146 through 36 holes. O'Connor had a pair of birdies but was victimized by four bogeys and one double bogey.
Joey Varnam opened with a one-over 72 on Friday but struggled to a seven-over 78 on Saturday and dropped into a tie for 50th at eight-over 150. Steven Molumby followed up a round of 73 with a 10-over 81 and is tied for 62nd at 12-over 154 with teammate Tim Snyder among others. Snyder, who led CSUN with an even-par 71 on Friday, finished with an 83 on Saturday. Dodge Ward rounded out the Matador squad as he is currently tied for 71st at 21-over 163 following rounds of 75-88.
"After tomorrow's round, we'll put the clubs away and focus on school and slowly work on our mental approach as we get ready for the spring," added Bracken.
The final round is scheduled for Sunday morning.
