Matadors Conclude Fall Season with 13th-Place Finish at Ka'anapali Classic

KA'ANAPALI, Maui - The CSUN men's golf team concluded the fall portion of the 2014-15 season Sunday as the Matadors finished 13th at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic at Ka'anapali G.C.
CSUN posted a team round of 300 on Sunday which followed up Friday's round of 287 and Saturday's 317. The Matadors finished 13th out of 13 teams with a final total of 904 (+52), certainly not the finish head coach Jim Bracken was looking for to cap the fall.
"The fall is done and it certainly wasn't up to our expectations," said Bracken. "I want everyone to put away the clubs, clear their heads and start thinking positively heading into the spring."
Despite a final round of seven-over 78, senior Michael O'Connor was CSUN's low scorer in the tournament. O'Connor finished with rounds of 71-75-78 to tie for 47th at 11-over 224.
Steven Molumby was one shot behind O'Connor as he tied for 52nd at 12-over 225 following rounds of 73-81-71. Molumby's final round of even-par 71 was CSUN's lowest over the three rounds matched also by O'Connor and Tim Snyder.
Joey Varnam tied for 56th at 13-over 226 following rounds of 72-78-76, Snyder tied for 63rd at 16-over 229 after scores of 71-83-75 and Dodge Ward was 70th at 30-over 243 after rounds of 75-88-80.
Snyder led the Matadors over the 15 rounds this fall with a 74.5 scoring average but Bracken knows several of his players are capable of scoring well.
"We've had quite a few guys shoot under-par at some point this fall," said Bracken. "We've just got to work on our consistency and we've got to play smarter and not compound our mistakes."
CSUN opens the spring schedule Feb. 9 at Southern Utah's Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational.
