Matadors Remain in Fourth at Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The CSUN men's golf team was one of four teams under par for the tournament as the Matadors finished at two-under 574 which was good for fourth place at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational at Sunbrook G.C.
College of Charleston (-13, 563) took home the team title while Southern Utah (-7, 569) was second followed by Utah Valley (-5, 571) and CSUN (-2, 574). A total of 13 teams completed play on Tuesday.
"It was a good start to the spring," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "I'm pleased that we shot 2-under as a team and our consistency was better this tournament. We still need to eliminate some mistakes and avoid big numbers but hopefully this was a step in the right direction."
Senior Michael O'Connor, the Matadors' scoring leader after round one, continued to play well as he matched his first round 69 with a three under-par 69 on Tuesday. O'Connor finished in a tie for third at six-under 138, two shots behind medalist Kenny You of Dixie State. The top-five finish was the first was the first this season for O'Connor who's best finish of the fall was 34th.
Steven Molumby, who had CSUN's best finish of the fall (3rd), posted a top-20 finish in Utah as he tied for 17th at even-par 144 following rounds of 73-71. Sam Engel, who was tied for 20th after an opening round 72, narrowly missed his first top-20 finish of the season as he tied for 21st at one-over 145 (72-73). Engel finished in a tie for 10th at this same tournament in 2014.
CSUN's next two scorers were playing as individuals as Conrad White finished tied for 42nd at five-over 149 (74-75) and Dodge White tied for 48th at six-over 150 (75-75).
Aden Louez and Tim Snyder shared 58th-place at nine-over 153 as Louez carded rounds of 74-79 and Snyder posted scores of 80-73.
Joey Varnam, also an individual, finished tied for 61st at 10-over 154 after rounds of 79-75.
CSUN is back in action Feb. 20 as the Matadors compete at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert.
