PALM DESERT, Calif. - Saturday's second round 305 moved the CSUN men's golf team up two spots on the leaderboard as the Matadors are now 19th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
Senior Michael O'Connor, who began the day tied for 25th at even par 72, carded a five over-par round of 77 on Saturday to slip into a tie for 44th at five-over 149. O'Connor was one of three CSUN players who dropped on the leaderboard following round two.
Junior Tim Snyder was one of two Matadors to improve from round one to round two as he moved 30 spots up the individual leaderbaord on Saturday. Snyder's one-over 73 was CSUN's low round of the day and moved him from 85th to 55th at six-over 150.
Steven Molumby's second round 80 dropped him from 62nd to 91st at 11-over 155 while Aden Louez moved up 19 spots with a three-over 75. Louez is currently at 13-over 157 while Sam Engel rounded out CSUN's individual scoring as he is tied for 121st at 18-over 162 after a second round 82.
"The wind was blowing pretty good for much of our round today," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "The guys really grinded but to have a pair of rounds in the 80's rather than say a 76 means the difference of six or seven shots."
In the team competition, Texas Tech expanded its lead from four shots to nine shots as the first round leaders posted a team round of 282 to sit at 13-under 563 through two rounds. TCU (572) is second followed by Denver (581), Kansas State (581) and Oregon (582) rounds out the top-five in the 24-team field.
At 609, the Matadors are just 10 shots out of top-15 heading into Sunday's final round.
