Matadors Finish 19th at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The CSUN men's golf team posted its best round of the tournament Sunday but remained 19th at the conclusion of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
The Matadors, who opened with rounds of 304 and 305, carded a team round of 302 Sunday to finish at 47 over-par 911. CSUN finished one stroke behind UC Santa Barbara (910) and was just seven shots out of the top-15.
"We played the last hole four-over without any penalty strokes," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "We should have moved up today and could have tied for 15th. We lost four shots on the last hole so that was frustrating."
Michael O'Connor, who was tied for 25th after shooting even-par 72 on Friday, improved slightly from round two's 77 as he carded a three-over 75 to finish in a tie for 48th at eight-over 224.
Tim Snyder moved up following each round as he opened in 85th-place, moved up to 55th before ultimately finishing in a tie for 50th. Snyder also finished Sunday at three-over 75 to cap his tournament at nine-over 225.
Steven Molumby finished tied for 87th at 15-over 231 following rounds of 75-80-76, Aden Louez finished tied for 93rd at 17-over 233 following rounds of 82-75-76 and Sam Engel tied for 124th at 29-over 245 following scores 80-82-83.
"We were a little more consistent over the last couple days, our worst round today was 76 so that was better," added Bracken. "For us to be successful, if we don't get anyone under par we need to get four good scores."
CSUN will next be competing at the Del Walker Invitational Mar. 2-3 at Virginia Country Club.
