Matadors Slip to Eighth, Shin Bidding for Top-20 at Big West Championship

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - A team round of 315 on Monday dropped the CSUN women's golf team to eighth after two rounds of the Big West Championship at El Macero C.C. Individually, senior Sharon Shin is bidding for a top 20 finish.
CSUN was sixth after an opening round 307 on Monday but dropped two slots after carding a 315 on Monday. UC Davis, ranked 22nd in the country, boosted its team lead to 12 shots over Hawai'i heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Matadors head into the final 18 holes just 10 shots out of sixth place.
A bright spot for CSUN on Monday was the play of Shin who is seeking her best finish ever at the conference championship. Shin, whose best finish was 32nd in both 2012 and 2014, fired a a four-over 76 on Monday to move up from 23rd into a tie for 19th at nine-over 153.
"We had a great start to the day, particularly with Sharon at two-under through eight," said CSUN head coach Gina Umeck. "The back nine was a little rough, but we've got nothing to lose tomorrow and are ready to wrap up the season well."
Elisabeth Haavardsholm is just outside the top 20 through 36 holes after carding a round of six-over 78 on Monday. At 10-over 154, Haavardsholm is tied with a pair of players for 23rd place.
Also for CSUN, Arinda Bhanaraksa is tied for 30th at 13-over 157 after a round of nine-over 81. Cesilie Hagen, who matched Shin with a pair of birdies on Monday, is alone in 33rd at 14-over 158 following a round of 80. Rebecca Bostrom closed out the Matador scoring as she followed up Sunday's 85 with a round of 10-over 82 to sit 39th at 23-over 167.
The Matadors will be paired with UC Irvine for Tuesday's final round. The two teams will tee off at 7:30 a.m.
