CSUN put itself in contention for a top five finish after carding team rounds of 288-291 on Monday. But the Matadors posted a final round 296 on Tuesday to slip two spots on the final leaderboard, finishing at 11-over 875.
Five teams in the 15-team field finished under-par as UC Santa Barbara led from start to finish in tying the tournament record with a team score of 31-under 833. USC's Jonah Texeira, one of four Trojan individuals in the field, won medalist honors with a 14-under total of 202 (66-68-68). Texeira's total broke the previous Cullum record held by Arizona State's Jon Rahm who finished at 13-under 203 in 2014.
Fidel Concepcion of Southern Utah, the defending individual champion, posted a final round 69 to finish second at 12-under 204 while Brandon Bauman of UC Santa Barbara and David Kim of UC Irvine shared third place at nine-under 207.
For the Matadors, Tavit Garabedian and Felix Mory had CSUN's low finish as the two tied for 25th. Garabedian was tied for 15th after an opening round one-under 71 but slipped to 27th after a second round 73. The senior was one-under through 14 holes before a bogey at No. 1 dropped him to even par for the round and the tournament. Mory led CSUN with six birdies on his way to a one-under round of 71 which moved him eight spots up the leaderboard.
Junior Trym Falch, who was in the top-30 through two rounds, struggled to a final round seven-over 79 to drop into a tie for 60th at seven-over 223. Falch wound up posting rounds of 71-73-79. Sophomore Tomas Skajem tied for 66th at nine-over 225 after rounds of 74-72-79 and senior Sam Engel competed the CSUN lineup finishing 84th at 17-over 233 (80-79-74).
CSUN also competed a pair of individuals as freshman Michael Zhang tied for 76th at 11-over 227 (74-74-79) and Sevian Frangipane posted the best round of his young CSUN career with a final round 74 to finish 90th at 26-over 242 (82-86-74).
Jim Bracken's squad has two fall tournaments remaining as the Matadors next head to the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational Oct. 27-29 at Stockton Golf and Country Club.
